You can help by walking now for Autism Speaks

WBTV is again a proud sponsor of the greater Charlotte Walk Now for Autism Speaks. This year's event is a month earlier than last year, so now is the time to get involved. The walk will be held Saturday, September 28 at zMax Dragway in Concord.

Money raised will support the mission of Autism Speaks. The organization works to raise awareness of autism, fund research into its causes, how to better diagnosis it and provide more effective treatments. Autism Speaks also advocates for families and provides resources like "100 Day" kits for families whose child has been diagnosed.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now reports autism is diagnosed in 1 out of every 88 children. The rate for boys is 1 in 54. The rates are even higher here in North Carolina.

We encourage you to create a walk team, join one, or just make a donation. You can learn more and get involved by clicking here. You can join Jamie Boll's team "Casey's Cougars" here.

We look forward to seeing you on Saturday, September 28. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. The walk kicks off at 10 am.
