A rash of thefts in Springfield Township has investigators baffled.
The Lucas County Sheriff's Office issued an alert Monday. Eight
motorcycles have been stolen in a relatively small area since July 12.
Some of the thefts occurred at the Valley Stream apartment complex.
Sheriff John Tharp says for some riders, the motorcycles may have been the only
means of transportation.
"They're upset and they're disgusted," Tharp said. "They work so hard
and are making payments on these motorcycles. These are high-skilled
motorcycles. These are not just $250 mopeds."
Other thefts occurred on Dorr Street, North McCord Road and
"[The owners] are not leaving the keys in the motorcycle, nor are [the
thieves] hot-wiring the motorcycles," Tharp explained. "They are dragging the
motorcycles into a vehicle. A box vehicle, we believe."
The sheriff's office has received information that there are three
white male suspects driving a white box-type truck. The sheriff has his road
patrol constantly looking for the truck, even stopping drivers.
This crime is grand theft auto, and it carries hefty sentences.
"We're going to find out who they are, and we're going to arrest them,"
