LAUGHLIN, NV (CBS5) -

Police in Nevada have arrested a 21-year-old Arizona man accused of stabbing his mother while she was sleeping.

The Bullhead City Police Department spokeswoman Emily Fromelt said officers were called to an apartment in the 2000 block of Klondike Way about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday where a 52-year-old woman reported she woke up to her son attacking her with a knife.

Police said she had cuts on her neck and defensive wounds on her arms. She was taken to the Western Arizona Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Police said her son, Zachary McGuire, had fled. Security at a Laughlin, NV, casino saw him Thursday morning and called the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Laughlin Substation.

McGuire is in Metro's custody awaiting extradition to Arizona where he faces charges of aggravated assault and disorderly conduct involving a weapon.

The victim said her son suffers from mental issues.
