Durham, N.C. (WBTV/WRAL) - Police throughout North Carolina were put on alert Thursday morning after a four-year-old boy was reported to be abducted in Durham.

In a surprising turn of events, WRAL, the CBS affiliate in Raleigh reports, the boy was found safe, sleeping in the closet of his home.

The Centers for Missing and Exploiting Children first reported the Amber Alert for four-year-old Ari Aguilar-Castillo around two Thursday morning.

At the time, Durham police reported the boy was taken by a 45-year-old man. Their relationship, if any, was unknown.

A friend of Ari's family told WRAL the boy's mother was taking clothes to a car outside their apartment late Wednesday night. When she came back to the front of the apartment, she said Ari was gone.

The boy was found safe in the closet around 7 a.m., five hours after his abduction was reported.
