Overall crime down in Charlotte, rapes up

Police have released the June crime numbers for Charlotte:

Twenty-four homicides were reported through June compared to 27 last year, resulting in a decrease of -11%
  
There were 844 robberies were reported compared to 857, resulting in a decrease of -1.5%.
 
At least 131 rapes were reported compared to 111, resulting in an increase of 18%. (95% of the rapes reported involved known acquaintances)

Police say 1458 aggravated assaults were reported compared to 1567, resulting in a decrease of -7.0%.
 
Burglary decreased -13.9%, (3042 compared to 3534) with a decrease of -12.4% in residential  (2453 compared to 2801) and a decrease of -19.6% in commercial cases (589 compared to 733).
 
Officers say 828 vehicle thefts were reported compared to 1037, resulting in a decrease of -20.2%.
 
Total larceny cases decreased by -3.9% (10524 compared to 10948) with the larcenies from auto down by -7.6% (3537 compared to 3829).
 
There were 113 arson cases were reported compared to 98, resulting in an increase of 15.3%.
