Toddler's fight for survival inspires toy drive

Leigh Ann Webb is more than happy to share the story of her little girl.

"When we were on the operating table they told me your child has a bilateral cleft lip and palate. And it was a total surprise," said Leigh Ann.

Her daughter, Katie was born 19 months ago with a whole host of health problems. Life threatening conditions that have come close to taking her life. But it's as if no one ever told her that.

"She is just absolutely the most wonderful, phenomenal ,and the happiest most sweetest baby on earth," said Leigh Ann.

In her short life, she's spent almost 50 days at Levine's Children's hospital. That's where this idea came from. Katie was never without a toy. Neither was her older sister Sarah. Most all of them were donated. It's a tiny gesture that meant the world. In Katie's honor, her family is giving back.

People are giving toys, or money. All of it will be delivered to Levine's at the end of this month. In return, Donors get to meet the smiling driving force behind it all. "Katie's Thousands" is the name of the effort. The family is hosting drop-off "meet and greets" at local businesses during the month of July.

"I know how important it is and how important it was to my family to be able to live and to know that people care," said Leigh Ann. She hopes "Katie's Thousands" will help put smiles on the faces of sick boys and girls and their families.
