Raleigh to Charlotte train halted after pedestrian was struck, killed

BURLINGTON, NC (WBTV) - One person is dead after being struck by an Amtrak train en route from Raleigh to Charlotte Saturday evening.

An Amtrak spokesperson tells WBTV Carolinian train number 79 was approaching the Burlington train station at 5:23 p.m. when someone walked in front of the train. WBTV is told it appears the person was committing suicide. The person was pronounced dead. Police have not released an identity.

No one on board the train was hurt. The train was held at the station for an hour before continuing its journey to Charlotte.
