MONROE, NC (WBTV) -

Monroe's top cop is tossing her hat into the political ring.

Just two days after announcing she would be retiring, Monroe Police Chief Debra Duncan filed paper work today to run for political office.

Duncan who had a very contentious relationship with the Monroe City Council, will now try to join them.

She filed just moments ago to run for one of three at large seats up for grabs in Monroe's October elections. Duncan's last day on the force is September 1.
