Kannapolis man arrested after crack cocaine found during traffic stop

SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) -

A Kannapolis man was arrested on drug charges after he was stopped by deputies for a traffic violation.

Christopher Novell McCauley, of Kannapolis, is charged with possession with intent to sell and distribute a controlled substance, felony possession of a controlled substance and possession of a firearm by a felon, according to the news release from the Rowan County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies stopped McCauley on the 2100 block of S. Main Street in Kannapolis on Thursday.

A K-9 unit alerted deputies to the possibility of drugs in the car.

A .40 caliber Glock pistol was found in the car and a bag of "crack" cocaine was found on McCauley worth $5,000, according to the release.

McCauley was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $100,000 bond.

Christopher McCauley has a lengthy criminal record that includes Armed Robbery; Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, and numerous felony drug convictions, according to the release.

McCauley was also placed on Project Safe, due to his lengthy record.
