WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – With one day remaining for candidates to file for the 2013 municipal elections, several races are running short on names.
In Belville, only incumbent Donna Schardien has filed to fill one of the two open seats for Commissioner. There are also two open seats for Commissioner in Carolina Shores, with incumbent Greg Davis the lone candidate as of Thursday afternoon. Three council seats are open in Northwest and only two candidates have filed to run, current council members James McKoy and Foster McKoy.
Former Brunswick County Commissioner Charles Warren is running for office once again. Warren, who lost a reelection bid in 2012, filed Thursday to run for Mayor in Oak Island, opposite incumbent Betty Wallace.
In Bladen County, the Town Council race in Tar Heel is one candidate short. Incumbents Angeline Hall and Sam Allen are the only candidates running for three open seats.
As of Thursday afternoon, no candidates have filed to run for Mayor in Atkinson, in Pender County.
In the Columbus County town of Sandyfield, only one candidate, Leonard Hall, has filed to run for two open seats on Town Council.
Candidates have until Noon on Friday, July 19 to file for office.
