Traffic Alert; Lynx Groundbreaking

TRAFFIC ALERT on this Thursday morning, 18 July 2013!  A part of Mount Holly-Huntersville Road is shut down this morning due to a problem caused by all the rain.  The area affected is between Harris Boulevard and Northlake Center Parkway.  We'll have alternate routes for you in our First Alert Traffic reports.

Groundbreaking ceremonies for the Lynx blue line extension is set to take place at ten o'clock this morning. It's a billion dollar project that will now join Uptown Charlotte with the University Area.  We'll have details in a live report.

It's a big day for fans who want to see the Hornets name return to Charlotte's NBA franchise.  The league is expected to give it's official approval to the name change today.  The Bobcats/Hornets have a big party planned!  We have complete details.

We'll tell you about a public hearing being held today to talk about the proposal to install toll lanes on I-77...from the Lake Norman area into Charlotte, and on part of I-277.

A rally in support of the Trayvon Martin case is going to be held in Charlotte tonight.

It's going to be another day of stifling heat for a section of the country stretching from South Dakota to Massachusetts...the National Weather Service says most states will see another day of temperatures over 90.  We expect to hit 90 in Charlotte today and there's also a chance of scattered thunderstorms.  We'll have your complete First Alert Weather forecast.
