Chris Holtmann stepped down today as Gardner-Webb head basketball coach to take an assistant coach job at Butler University.
Holtmann spent 3 years at GW and enjoyed his most successful season this past year. His Runnin' Bulldogs won 21 games which is the most in a single season in school history and he was also named the Big South Conference Coach of the Year.
He is joining a Butler program that is in a big transition. The athletic program will be joining the Big East Conference this season and they will have a new head basketball coach in Brandon Miller.
The search to replace Holtmann at GW will begin immediately.
Who ever they pick will have some talent to work with as GW returns 3 starters in Donta Harper, Jerome Hill, and Tyler Strange. The Runnin' Bulldogs will also welcome in transfer Naji Hibbert from Texas A&M.
