Shelby police identify victim in fatal Saturday shooting

SHELBY, NC (WBTV) - One female died from a gunshot wound early Saturday morning.

Shelby police say they responded to a shooting call on 208 Ramblewood Drive and found a female suffering from a gunshot wound.

Latasha Vanessa Petty, 24, of Bessemer City, was transported to Cleveland Regional Medical Center and pronounced dead.

During the investigation, police arrested Steven Tyrell Morris, 20, and charged him with Possession of a Firearm by Felon, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, and Resist, Obstruct and Delay according to Shelby PD.

Police took Morris to the Cleveland County Detention Center without bond.

Police are still investigating the case and further charges are pending.
