North Carolina making national headlines over legislation

RALEIGH, NC (WBTV) -

North Carolina is making national headlines thanks to state lawmakers, Governor Pat McCrory and everything that's happening inside the legislative building in Raleigh.

For weeks, network news, cable news and many national newspapers have picked up the fiery debates taking place between Republicans and Democrats.

Some of the major issues passing through Raleigh include: stricter abortion laws, canceling unemployment benefits and tougher voter ID laws. Ending early and Sunday voting is also up for debate.

The New York Times Editorial Board wrote a piece called "The Decline of North Carolina." The article hit newsstands Wednesday morning. Click here to read the article.

Governor Pat McCrory's Office released the following statement about the editorial:

"The New York Times editorial is riddled with errors, and maybe if they came to North Carolina, they would understand that Governor McCrory remains 100% focused on the economy, education, and government efficiency as he has been for the first six months in office."
