FLAGSTAFF, AZ (CBS5/AP) - Two years after a landslide tore apart a 500-foot section of U.S. 89 in northern Arizona, the Arizona Department of Transportation has reopened the highway to traffic.

ADOT took a photo of the first vehicle to use the newly rebuilt U.S. 89 highway south of Page after it reopened to traffic Friday afternoon.

Students from the Bitter Springs and Marble Canyon areas have been among the most impacted since a landslide buckled pavement along the mountain slope in the Echo Cliffs area and closed U.S. 89 between Bitter Springs and Page on Feb. 20, 2013.

"The district will be now be able to re-establish our traditional bus runs to these communities, which will reduce the time that some of these children spend on our buses by up to an hour on a one-way trip," Page Unified School District Superintendent Jim Walker.

The $25 million repair project began last summer.
