Popular downtown restaurant catches fire in Salisbury

Firefighters in Salisbury are investigating a fire at a popular downtown restaurant.

The fire was reported around 5 p.m. at Cartucci's Restaurant on East Fisher Street. Crews were able to contain the fire to the kitchen area and prevent the fire from spreading to surrounding buildings and the second floor of the structure.

At the present time, the fire has been extinguished, according to the City of Salisbury spokesperson, but crews will remain on the scene throughout the night.

Duke Power has secured power for both Cartucci's and Watkins Fitness as an additional precaution.

Salisbury Fire and Police departments responded to the scene and mutual aid was provided by Spencer, Granite Quarry, Ellis, Locke, Franklin, China Grove, Faith, Rockwell City, Union, Millers Ferry, Landis and Cleveland Fire Departments, Rowan County EMS, Rowan Rescue Squad and off duty Salisbury Fire Department personnel.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, pending investigation by the Salisbury Fire Marshal.

The owner of the restaurant tells WBTV's David Whisenant that it was an electrical fire.

Smoke could be seen lingering through downtown.

Main Street was closed so firefighters could coordinate their operation.

No injuries have been reported.
