New clinical lab opens in Rock Hill

ROCK HILL, SC (WBTV) -

Folks in Rock Hill got the chance to tour one of the city newest businesses, Monday.

One special guest to welcome the former Charlotte based business was South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley.

Governor Haley introduced employees of Physicians Choice Lab Services to the city of Rock Hill.

"You've decided on an amazing community, an amazing community," said Governor Haley.

Governor Haley got a personal tour of the new facility.

PCLS officials say the lab testing company moved from Charlotte to South Carolina for a handful of reasons including physical room to grow, Job tax credits and other tax incentives.

"We needed a commitment. A commitment of an area that really wanted us to be here and that commitment came in a number of different forms," said PCLS President Philip McHugh.

The folks here at PCLS like Rock Hill so much, they invested more than $20 million in a 106,000 square foot building.

"When you look at $24 million invested and 364 jobs right here to Rock Hill, it's a great testament to Rock Hill. It's a great testament to York County. It's a great testament to this company and what they're getting ready to do," said Governor Haley.

PCLS is the first company to move into to Rock Hill's new Riverwalk Business Park. It expects to bring new jobs to the area before the year is over.

McHugh says the future for economic growth in Rock Hill is bright.

"I think the community leaders here in are doing everything they can to make Rock Hill an outstanding place to do business," said McHugh.

He hopes more business owners invest in the city his company now calls home.

The company considered more than 40 possible locations in the Charlotte region before choosing Riverwalk.

PCLS receives up to $3,750 credit per job created in York County.
