Woman asked deputies if "hit man" she hired was an informant, officials say

A woman was arrested in Shelby after going to the Sheriff's Office with suspicions that the hit man she hired was a police informant, according to the Cleveland County Sheriff's Office.

The incident began In June, when an informant of the Sheriff's Office reported that he had been solicited by Deanna Michelle Pruitt, of Shelby, to kill someone for money. Investigators opened an investigation and worked with the informant to collect evidence on the murder plot, the report states.

However, during the investigation Pruitt became suspicious that the hit man may be a police informant. On Friday, July 5, she went to the Sheriff‘s Office to talk with investigators about her suspicions, deputies said.

During an interview Pruitt admitted that she had attempted to hire a man to kill an acquaintance of hers. After the interview she was arrested and charged with solicitation to commit murder.

She was denied bond, and given a court date for Monday, July 8.
