Mudslides shut down roads in Caldwell County

Heavy rain means more road closures in Caldwell County. As of Sunday night, mudslides triggered at least two more closures.

Kirby Mountain Road near the intersection of Water Falls Road is now closed due to a mudslide that has completely blocked the road. Ken Teague, Caldwell County Assistant Emergency Management Coordinator says traffic is being re-routed onto Water Falls Road.

In addition, Highway 90 North is closed just above Johns River Campground due to a mudslide that covers three fourths of the road. Any traffic in the areas is advised to exercise extreme caution traveling in the area.

Also, Highway 268 is still closed at the intersection with Laytown Road, Old Johns River Road and Wilsons Creek Road all remain closed due to flooding and erosion.

Kayakers and hikers are being asked to please avoid these areas due to the dangerous conditions and high water.

Highway 268 drivers will be detoured onto Laytown Road which comes back out on Highway 268 above the dangerous area.
