CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Police are investigating after a woman was hit by a stray bullet outside of an uptown Charlotte nightclub on the 4th of July.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, officers were called to Bar Charlotte, along the 300 block of North College Street after a woman was reportedly shot in the alley on Thursday evening.

The incident happened around 10:55 p.m.

Officers say the woman was standing in the alley when she was hit in the shoulder by a "falling projectile."  Witnesses on the scene say they didn't hear a gunshot or see anyone shoot a gun.

WBTV has learned that the woman sustained only minor injuries.

"The bullet literally is sitting on top of her clothing," police told WBTV. "She did have a little injury to her shoulder, but she's gonna be fine."

Officers are investigating and ask anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 704-334-1600.

Police want to remind the public  to "never to shoot a gun into the air."

Officers say from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday night, they received 30 shots fired calls, 250 firework calls and 39 Shot Spotter calls for service during 4th of July celebrations.
