Tucson police ID teen killed in bicycle collision

TUCSON, AZ (AP) -

Police have identified the bicyclist who died after he was pulled beneath a tractor trailer that was making a turn at a Tucson intersection.

Police say 19-year-old Albert Rich was taken to the hospital after Wednesday evening's collision and was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.

Detectives say the semi driver was headed west on Broadway Boulevard and then made a right-hand turn onto Campbell Avenue.

That's when Rich, who was riding in the bicycle lane along Broadway, hit the right side of the semi just below the passenger door. He was pulled beneath the rig as it completed the turn.

Tucson police spokesman Chris Widmer says there have been 19 fatalities in the city so far this year, including one cyclist, seven pedestrians and three motorcyclists.
