Fireworks shows may be delayed this evening if storms pop up across the Carolinas.
While thunderstorms are not expected across a large area, several are likely to develop during the late afternoon and early evening hours. Severe storms are unlikely with flooding being a larger threat.
Numerous showers continue to train, or move over the same areas repeatedly, which could bring over an inch of rain to many locations to the west of Charlotte. With an already saturated ground and high water levels, that could be more than enough to cause creeks to flood their banks.
Even with all the rain expected today, it's unlikely we'll set any records for the holiday. In 1989, more than 2.6 inches fell on July 4th.
