Mother, boyfriend arrested on child abuse charges

ALBEMARLE, NC (WBTV) -

A mother and her boyfriend were arrested on child abuse charges after two children were treated at the hospital for injuries, according to the Albemarle Police Department.

On Saturday, June 8, officers were called to Stanly Regional Medical Center in reference to an assault, in which two juveniles were being treated for injuries sustained by an unknown person, police said.

During the investigation, the officers discovered that Kayla Lynne Coffey-Baribault, 22, the mother of the children and her boyfriend, Lionel Joseph Tucker, 23, were responsible for the children's injuries.

Both mother and boyfriend were arrested and charged with child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury and child abuse inflicting serious physical injury.

Coffey-Baribault was placed under a $20,000 bond, and Tucker a $50,000 bond.
