Man dies after being shot, wrecking in Caldwell County


Investigators say a man died from his injuries after he was shot and later wrecked along a road in Caldwell County on Tuesday.

According to the Caldwell County Sheriff's Office, emergency crews were called to a crash scene along  Miller Hill Road in Lenoir on Tuesday morning around 9:51 a.m.

When the Gamewell Fire Department First Responders arrived on the scene they found the driver in the vehicle with a gunshot wound.  First responders notified the communications center and deputies were sent to the accident scene. 

The man was then rushed to Caldwell Memorial Hospital with critical injuries and later died at the hospital.

Investigators say they were able to locate the scene of the shooting on Hawksbill Court in Lenoir. 

WBTV has learned that investigators are processing the scene along with assistance from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations.

A person of interest is being questioned, however, no arrest has been made yet. The name of the victim has not been released.
