YORK, SC (WBTV) -

A South Carolina Greenhouse company and its employees may have a bright future ahead of them.

North Carolina based Metrolina Greenhouse wants to take over that bankrupt company.

Stacy's Greenhouses is one of York County's biggest employers.

The company filed for bankruptcy last month, but a Huntersville Greenhouse company is giving them new life.

"We're delighted and relieved. We're relieved because it'll still be here and we're relieved because those jobs will still be here," said York Mayor Eddie Lee.

York Mayor Eddie Lee can sleep easy Monday night knowing one of York County's biggest job juggernauts won't be going anywhere.

Stacy's employs more than 400 workers and their future was bleak until the Huntersville based company Metrolina Greenhouses stepped in and is now buying the struggling Stacy's.

We talked to Metrolina's Co-CEO Abe Van Winger den by phone on Monday.

"Stacy's is a family business and so it Metrolina Greenhouses, I look at this as bringing together two really strong family businesses and we look to keep that atmosphere," said Van Wingerden.

Metrolina is the largest single-site heated greenhouse in the US and has over 900 employees.

The North Carolina company looks to jump into the perennial flower business with the acquisition of Stacy's, who is known for their year-round flowers.

But the biggest winner is the employees of Stacy's, who Van Wingerden says will not lose their jobs.

"I know when people hear the word bankruptcy it makes them nervous. I just want everyone down there to know we're going to make this a better business than it has been in the past," said Van Wingerden.

"We always want more jobs. We're beginning to see an upswing in the economy and we're glad we didn't lose jobs in this case," said Mayor Lee.

Metrolina hopes to take over on August 30th pending on a South Carolina Bankruptcy court ruling.
