Police searching for vehicle full of stolen artwork

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - When someone steals a car, it's usually for the car, or something expensive inside. Electronics, or even money are prime examples, but artwork?

Taylor Thomas, 23, says someone stole her 1999 Navy Blue Ford Explorer full of two years worth of her artwork. She's a professional artist living in Charlotte and walked out of her apartment Thursday morning to find an empty parking spot.

"I'm not even sure if the people who took my car know there's artwork in the car," she said.

Thomas said when she walked outside, she noticed a police officer. Coincidentally, the officer was on site for another car break-in just a few feet away. Thomas says she's used to this situation, as this is the second time someone stole her Explorer.

"Last April, when I was a student at Davidson, it was actually keyed and stolen," she said.

Police eventually found the car, abandoned in Cornelius. Thomas says she's working with police to find her car again, only for what's inside.

"Those are just pieces of who I am and matter to me more than any car would," she said.

Thomas says she was getting ready to bring them to an art show.  If you have any information, police ask you call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600. You can remain anonymous and may receive a cash reward.
