Park Road back open after water main break

Utility crews say a major road in south Charlotte is back open after a water pipe collapsed on Monday.

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utility Department, all lanes of Park Road were reopened on Tuesday morning.

Crews responded to the 4900 block of Park Road at Cortland Road around 4 p.m. Monday afternoon after a 6-inch water pipe collapsed.

Witnesses told WBTV that they saw bubbling water coming from the ground. Then, they said, water began spraying straight up in the air.

Officials haven't determined a cause for the collapse, but say it is under investigation.

Crews finished making repairs to the road early Tuesday morning and reopened the road before the morning rush hour.
