Thousands waking up without power this morning

Good morning! It's Friday, June 14. This is Christine Nelson. I just wanted to send you this quick email and let you know what's in the news this morning. Make sure you're tuning in to WBTV News This Morning from 4:30-7:00 a.m. for all the details.

Breaking News: We are in Union County right now where reports are coming in about a fire. It's on Lancaster Highway in Monroe. WBTV's Cam Man Ron Lee is talking to our producers right about the info that is trickling in. We'll keep you updated on the air.


Chances are you experienced some of the severe weather that swept through yesterday evening. It was a quick storm but some are feeling the effects of it still in the form of power outages. Mecklenburg County seeing the most outages right now at 6,390. There are 4,349 residents in Cabarrus County with no power. We'll tell you what Duke Energy officials are saying about when it will be restored.

It's safe to say the weather damage is the culprit behind the power outage problems. Reports of trees and power lines down were coming in by the minute during the storm. We'll show you some of the pictures from the hardest hit areas.

WILDFIRES: It has become the worst wildfire in the state's history. Officials in Colorado are still fighting to gain control of the Black Forest fire. We have new info on the damage it has caused.

Also this morning, the family of the hospital executive murdered in SouthPark speaking out after the guilty verdict came down for the man who killed him. We'll let you hear what they have to say.
