Homemade explosive device found by road in Boone

BOONE, NC (WBTV) -

A homemade explosive device was found on the side of a road in Boone this week, according to the Boone Police Department.

On Tuesday, June 11, around 4:15 p.m., Boone Fire Department personnel performing routine fire hydrant maintenance saw what they say was a suspicious object lying near a fire hydrant on Lady Slipper Lane.

Boone Police, Fire, and the Wilkes County Sheriff's Office E.O.D./Bomb Squad responded to the scene, and determined that the object was a homemade explosive device.

The device was then rendered safe and turned over to the bomb squad for disposal.

Police have not released what kind of explosive the device was, but say that the investigation into the incident continues.
