Man arrested after SWAT situation

A man was arrested in Charlotte Wednesday after a short standoff stemming from a domestic situation, according to the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department.

On Wednesday, June 12, just before 10 a.m., officers responded to a 911 call for a domestic disturbance on the 3200 block of Nobles Avenue, where a man, later identified as Jartavous Gaither, 28, was refusing to leave the apartment.

Once officers arrived, there was no response from inside of the apartment. A short time later, Gaither then sent the residents out of the apartment and barricaded himself inside.

Police say Gaither was wanted on outstanding warrants for assault and burglary.

The SWAT Team then responded to the scene and set up a perimeter. The apartment complex was also evacuated as a precautionary measure, officers said.

After a short stand-off, Gaither eventually surrendered to SWAT officers standing by and was arrested without any further incidents.
