CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

A woman has been issued citations for DWI and reckless driving after she and a passenger were injured in a crash Tuesday near the scene of a sinkhole that formed early that morning.

Officials told WBTV that a female driver, later identified as Bambi Jean Owensby, was traveling outbound on Providence Road. According to witnesses at the scene, Owensby was driving at a high rate of speed.

That's when her car crashed into the back of a DOT dump truck, there for crews working on the sinkhole. No one was in the dump truck at the time of the crash.

WBTV's Sky 3 was over the scene where officials worked to Owensby and another person from the car.

Medic said both were hurt in the accident. One of the two suffered serious injuries. Both were taken to Carolinas Medical Center.

Wednesday, police issued Owensby the DWI and reckless driving citations due to the fact that she is still in the hospital.

The sinkhole formed on the 900 block of Providence Road at Queens Road.

The hole is several feet wide and takes up an entire lane of Providence.

Overnight Wednesday, the lane reopened after state crews repaired the hole.

NCDOT engineers had to replace 24 feet of concrete pipe in three sections where the sinkhole formed.
