IREDELL COUNTY, NC (WBTV) -

Investigators in Iredell County say they have identified a teenager whose body was found after he went missing while swimming in a quarry on Tuesday afternoon.

According to Iredell Emergency management, the search began on Tuesday at a quarry off the 1200 block of Oak Ridge Farm Highway in Mooresville.  This is the Carrigan Farms.

The Iredell County Sheriff's office says they believe the teen, identified as Ryan Jamal Hayes, 19, of Harrisburg, was under the water for about an hour and a half.

Rescuers say Hayes was swimming with four other people. He surfaced from the water, yelled for help, and went back under.

His body was found nearly 25 feet underwater more than an hour and a half later by dive teams using sonar.

The teen's mother came to the scene during the search and learned of her son's death.

Charlotte Fire Department's Dive Team was called in to help with the search.
