Woman attacked by pitbull, fends it off with a stick

Investigators in Union County say a pitbull will be put down after it attacked a woman trying to get into a home Monday afternoon.

The woman told police she and her small dog were attacked by the pitbull around 2 p.m. on the 600 block of Engleside Street, according to the report from the Monroe Police Department.

She told police that she had taken her dog out of the car and sat it on the front steps of the home when a black and gray pitbull came from around back and starting attacking her dog.

The pitbull starting biting the smaller dog and then bit the woman on her leg several times.

The woman used a stick to try and get it away from her.

She was taken to CMC-Union for treatment of several puncture wounds to her lower legs, according to the report.

Monroe Animal Control and firefighters also responded to the scene.

Animal Control took possession of the pitbull and took it to the Union County Animal Shelter.

The owner of the dog surrendered ownership to Animal Control and the dog is set to be euthanized after the 10-day Rabies quarantine.
