Man arrested after body found inside car in east Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Police in Charlotte have charged a man with murder after officers found a body inside a car in east Charlotte on Monday night.

Detectives with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department charged 33-year-old Keith Tyron Henderson in the death of 35-year-old Eric Lacey Stokes.

According to police, officers received a call about the unresponsive man inside of a sedan parked at an apartment complex off of Snow Lane in east Charlotte around 9 pm Monday night.

Medics arrived at the location, but pronounced the man, later identified as Stokes, dead minutes later.

Police called in two crime labs to collect evidence as they talked to witnesses and neighbors to try to figure out what happened.

According to officers, Henderson voluntarily came to police headquarters to be interviewed by detectives.  During the interview detectives learned that the Stokes sustained his injuries during an altercation that took place at along the 6300 block of The Plaza. 

At the end of the interview, detectives arrested Henderson and charged him with murder.
