Police: Man assaulted woman, hit her with shotgun barrel

STATESVILLE, NC (WBTV) -

Police in Statesville are asking for the public's assistance in locating a man they say assaulted a woman and hit her with the barrel of a shotgun.

On Friday night, Statesville police responded to a local hospital to meet with a victim who reported that she had been assaulted by an acquaintance at her home on the 500 block of Monroe Street.

The victim said that Roy Smyre had been harassing a friend of hers, and that she then told Smyre to leave her home. The victim's friend then left, and the victim then went outside to avoid Smyre, the report states.

The victim said that Smyre then knocked her down in the driveway and struck her in the head with a shotgun barrel before leaving the area.

Officers obtained a felony warrant for Smyre's arrest for assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
