Park Road shut down in both directions near Sedgefield community

Power crews are working to restore electricity and remove a huge oak tree that fell across Park Road late Monday afternoon.

Part of the tree landed on a silver SUV driven by a woman. Police officers on the scene tell WBTV she and her five-year-old were able to walk away from the SUV with very minor injuries.

It's believed a lightning strike made the oak come crashing down.

It fell near the YWCA and Townes Road. Drivers are encouraged to take Townes Road as a detour.

It's expected to take several more hours for the tree to be removed.
