WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) –  State Senator Thom Goolsby is getting some national attention for his stance on protests at the General Assembly led by the North Carolina NAACP.

Buzzfed.com blasts Goolsby in an online piece apparently authored by Jamison Doran, who writes about a "back and forth" he had with the Senator following an op-ed article Goolsby authored for The Chatham Journal.  "Goolsby is a member of a very unpopular state legislature and has shown how entitled he thinks he is and how out of touch he is with the people of his state," writes the blogger. "Engaging in bullying tactics whenever challenged by people who disagree with you is not how someone in public office should behave."

Hundreds have been arrested in the weekly demonstrations at the General Assembly, which are called "Moral Mondays" by leaders at the NAACP. The group is planning a sixth week of protests this evening.

"Never short on audacity, the Loony Left actually named their gathering "Moral Monday." Between the screaming, foot stomping and disjointed speeches, it appeared more like "Moron Monday", Goolsby wrote in the opinion piece dated June 7th. "The gathering was supposed to influence legislators. However, no one thought to bring out any senate or house member from either party."

Goolsby did send a comment on the issue. "I enjoy communicating with all of my constituents," he said in a text message. "I will tell them what's on my mind and will not sugarcoat where I stand. I am a real guy who cares deeply about my community. I am proud of my record and will remain in personal touch with the people who elected me.
