CHINA GROVE, NC (WBTV) -

A woman was found murdered in her China Grove home Saturday night, and after a search through the night, her boyfriend is now in custody facing a murder warrant.

On Saturday at approximately 7:45 pm, officers with the China Grove Police Department received a call to check on the welfare of an individual who had been reported missing to the Rowan County Sheriff's Office.

Reported missing was Roxanne Fowler Maddry, 48.

When police arrived at the home of Maddry's boyfriend, Wayne Hill, at 124 Poplar Street in China Grove, they found the her vehicle at the home, as well as additional items of evidence that led them to believe that Maddry may was inside the home and possibly injured.

Police forced entry and found Maddry and determined that she had been fatally wounded.   Police told WBTV that Maddry had died from blunt force trauma.

"This is just so sad," Brenda Butler wrote on Facebook.  "Roxanne was a beautiful woman, inside and out."

"I'm so sad to hear this," wrote John Lomax.   "My condolences to her family. I went to school with Roxanne."

A crime scene was established and during the course of an investigation, officers broadcast information on Wayne Eugene Hill, Maddry's boyfriend who was identified as a person of interest as well as Hill's truck.

At approximately 10:00 pm, information was received that the vehicle was located on Highway 24/27 at the Stanly/Montgomery County line.  The driver had fled the scene and was being sought by officers with those counties.

On Sunday morning just after 8:00 am officers located Hill.

He was apprehended from within the woods where a search perimeter had been established after the vehicle was located. Hill was taken by EMS, escorted by China Grove officers, to Stanly Memorial Hospital for injuries he sustained.

He is well known in the China Grove community as a long time karate instructor.

"I know Wayne," one man wrote on the WBTV's web site.   "Always seemed like a great guy."

Hill was formally charged and booked into the Rowan County Detention Center just after 8:00 pm Sunday night.  Charged with first degree murder, Hill is being held without bond.
