Suspect arrested in elementary school laptop theft

Morganton Public Safety arrested and charged 17 year-old Jayson Alspaugh with breaking and entering, felony larceny, and possession of stolen goods.

Police say these charges are in relation to a break-in at Forest Hill Elementary last Monday.

24 Mac Books were stolen and the inside was damaged totaling about forty-four thousand dollars according to officials.

Alspaugh was caught at a local apartment when police responded to a noise complaint.

The majority of laptops were recovered but some are still missing.

Morganton Public Safety want anyone who may have bought a Mac Book from Alspaugh to return it to Morganton Public Safety.

The investigation is on-going and officials do not believe Alspaugh acted alone.

Alspaugh is being held in Burke Count Jail with a ten thousand dollar bond and will appear in court on Monday, June 10th.
