Several interviewed, none charged in Matthews murder

Police say several people have been questioned, but no one has yet been charged in Matthews' first murder of 2013.

The shooting happened around 8:30 p.m. Friday night on the 4700 block of Forestmont Drive in the Eastwood Forest Mobile Home Neighborhood.

Officials tell us the victim died on the way to the hospital. He's been identified as 23-year-old Christopher Brett Gaddis.

His roommate, April Pressley, says she heard the gunshots and ran outside to find Gaddis lying on the ground.

"It was the worst thing I've ever seen in my life, it's like something on TV, he'd been shot in the neck, and he couldn't breath," said Pressley.

Friends say his problems around the neighborhood began shortly after he moved into a mobile home on Forestmont drive. They say the shooting stemmed from an ongoing argument with an acquaintance.

"Ridiculous stuff like nothing, just rivalry over stupid stuff,"said Pressley.

On Saturday night, friends and neighbors gathered at the shooting scene for a candlelight vigil.

Gaddis' girlfriend says he was hoping to turn his life around. She says he recently started renovating houses and was excited about the future.

"He was just getting back on the right track and he was so proud of himself and I was so proud of him," said Bria Bond, Gaddis' girlfriend.

She says the couple had planned to go on a date Friday, but when she arrived, she found ambulances and fire trucks instead. She's hopeful police will find justice.

"I don't know why, I wish I knew why," she said.

Police said they have interviewed several people regarding the case, but have yet to charge anyone.
