MORGANTON, NC (WBTV) -

A Morganton man was convicted this week for failing to register as a sex offender, according to a release from the Office of the District Attorney.

Ryan Matthew Williams, 32, was convicted of failure to comply with sex offender registration after a one-day trial in Burke County Criminal Superior Court this week, the release states.

The jury deliberated for less than one hour prior to returning a verdict of guilty, and Williams was sentenced to no less than 23 months and no more than 28 months in the North Carolina Division of Adult Correction.

The conviction stems from Williams' conviction in March 2001 of felony indecent liberties with a child in Iredell County. He received a suspended sentence of no less than 16 months and no more than 20 months, and was required to register with the NC Sex Offender Registry.

Williams will be taken to the Division of Adult Correction for processing.
