WEATHER ALERT: Flash flooding warning for Mecklenburg County

Hello, this is Christine Nelson from the WBTV newsroom. The first Monday in June is a sopping wet one. Rain is hammering Charlotte as I type this email. Tune in to WBTV News This Morning from 4:30-7:00 a.m. We have the most reliable forecast to let you know what is happening as you get ready for the morning.

RIGHT NOW: There is a flash flood warning for Mecklenburg County until 6:30 a.m. Some fast facts:

--As much as four inches of rain has fallen since Sunday across south Charlotte, and the Pineville and Matthews area.

--Widespread rainfall amounts of 2 to 2.5 inches will be possible between 3:30 am and 6:30 am.

--Runoff from this excessive rainfall will cause flash flooding to occur. The most likely areas to experience flooding will be on

the south side of the city and in the Pineville and Matthews area...including portions of McMullen creek and McAlpine

creek...as well as four mile creek.

--As of 4:11 a.m., there are 5,933 power outages in Deckle County.

This is the same weather system that caused another round of deadly tornadoes in Oklahoma. The death toll kept rising over the weekend. We have the latest totals and video of the destruction the tornadoes caused. We also interviewed one of the volunteers from our area who was there helping residents.

VIDEO ALERT: There was a major powerhouse fire on the west coast. 2,800 residents living near it will not get to go home today.
