CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

The Union County Sheriff's Office is investigating a homicide that occurred at the 5000 block of West St. in Indian Trail.

Union County 911 received a report of a shooting at the address just before Sunday midnight. When Officers arrived on scene they found 27-year-old Christopher Reid Brown lying in the front yard of the residence, deceased from apparent gunshot wounds.

According to investigators, Brown was at the residence last night with several friends. Witnesses told investigators that a black car drove up and parked outside Brown's home for an extended period of time.

Brown eventually went to confront the occupants. Witnesses say as Brown approached the vehicle, several shots were fired, hitting Brown more than once. The black car drove away after the shots were fired according to the Union County Sheriff's office.

Neighbors attempted to assist Brown after hearing a commotion. Deputies, medical responders, and Highway Patrol responded to the scene.

Many of the visitors fled Brown's home before questioning and were later tracked down by detectives. The visitors were resistant at first but consented to interviews according to officials.

Sheriff's Detectives and the SBI are actively investigating the case and do not think it is random in nature.

Detectives have not released any possible suspects or motives.

The black car is described to be small with black rims, and a distinctive "bumblebee" muffler. Anyone with information concerning this crime is encouraged to contact Union County Crime Stoppers at 704-283-5600
