Victim identified in Albemarle Road shooting

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide/ADW Unit are conducting a homicide investigation for Franklin Festus Igwilo.

When Hickory Grove Division patrol officers arrived to the scene Igwilo was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

The shooting occurred in the 6000 block of Albemarle Road in the Hickory Grove Division.

The call came in at after 9:30 Saturday night.

Igwilo was transported to Carolinas Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.

Detectives have determined that the victim and a suspect were dropped off at the 6000 block of Albemarle Road in a dark possibly black vehicle. The vehicle is described as having the body style of a Maxima or Camry. The vehicle then left the scene.

An altercation then occurred between Igwilo and the suspect and the suspect shot the victim and fled on foot.

Crime Scene Search responded to the call for service to process the scene and collect physical evidence.
