Wedding Saturday: Choosing the right invitations

One of the first things guests will see which will set the tone for your wedding celebration is your invitation.

As a part of our Wedding Spectacular Saturday, Kristen Stewart, owner of Three Little Birds, visited WBTV News Saturday Morning to share some advice with couples.  Her advice follows:

What to Know Before Meeting with a Stationer

1. Know the number of invitations you need.

This is not the number of guests, but number of households, so often about one half of the invited guests.

2. Know what pieces you would like.

There is more to wedding stationery than just invitations.  There are Save the Dates, Ceremony Programs, Guest Welcome Notes, Guest Gift Bags, Favors, Favor Boxes and Bags....the list goes on.

3. Know your budget.

There are beautiful things in a variety of price points, our goal is to make sure that you are getting the most value for your budget.  Value can be printing style or paper weights, or it can be adding additional items, such as ceremony programs, place cards and menus.

4. Bring someone who also has a vested interest in the wedding.

This could be your mom, your fiance or even your maid/matron of honor.  You want someone who will be candid, but also balance out some of the emotion with practicality (grooms seem to be the best at this).

5. Allow yourself at least an hour to meet with us.

This will be one of the most involved decisions you make.  You will see hundreds of things here.  The goal is never to overwhelm, but to educate and to show you options.  We want you to not be rushed.

6. Start the process early.

Your invitations should be mailed two months before your wedding; ordered no less than three months before.  We suggest you start looking about six months before because there are so many options and you need time to consider the options before placing an order.  Our customers average three visits to our store before ordering.

7. Eat before you come to meet with us.

We want you happy and able to concentrate.
