Brigida's Blog: The dreaded plateau and how I broke through it!

There have been few things more frustrating since I started #TeamNOSugar than reaching a plateau.

Staying positive when the scale just won't BUDGE.

For me, this would have been week three of NO change.  It's been tough -- despite the encouragement from my friends, family and my trainer.

The 'you look great' or 'look how much you've accomplished' and my fav, 'you've probably lost some inches' just weren't cutting it anymore!

I mean, don't get me wrong -- seeing the scale stay the same is far better than seeing it go UP. But it's hard to keep that perspective when you're working so hard and eating well and yet, NO change.

So what do you do?

You dig deeper, work harder and shake things up! The body is very smart. It's whole goal is to make things EASIER for itself. You have to figure out a way to make it HARDER.

For me, it meant upping the protein in my daily caloric intake. For breakfast or a snack, I added 2 scoops of protein powder to 2 cups of unsweetened Almond Milk.

I also switched my workouts up. I pushed myself to run longer and when I did circuit training, I only rested 30-60 seconds between sets so that my heart rate would stay up. I also incorporated tougher moves. Like Burpees! Down into a push-up and then jump up (repeat, doing as many as you can). I've learned anything involving plyometrics (jumping) will turbo charge your metabolism! Jump squats, jumping rope and Burpees are all ways to incorporate more plyo moves.

Well, I'm happy to say after all THAT -- got on the scale this morning -- and it MOVED!

Bottom line: you HAVE to stay encouraged. You HAVE to keep moving forward. And please, please, PLEASE don't let it derail you to the point that you fall off the wagon!

The scale will eventually move. Just never lose sight of the big picture: that it's about taking control of your health and living the life of your dreams! Remember: NOTHING taste as good as being in the body of your dreams FEELS.
