Convenience store robbed 14 times

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Clerking at a convenience store has always been fraught with personal danger-- especially when you work at a place that's been robbed 14 times.

Lashari Clack is a cashier at the Gate station on Monroe Road. Her friend and co-worker was behind the register just before 6:30AM on a Friday.

"When I looked at the tape," said Clack, "it brought tears to my eyes. She has three kids, I have three boys and I think about-- that morning could have been her last morning."

That tape showed regular customers, wandering in and out at that time of the morning.

Two men, both dressed in all-black, were hovering near the beer case, even though it was too early to sell alcohol.

On had a cap with an undetermined shiny sticker. The other man had dreadlocks with a Chicago White Sox baseball cap.

The moment a customer completes her transaction and walks out of the store, those two men strike.

"They didn't push her physically," said Clack, "they rushed over and moved her with their gun they had."

Then came the threats.

"Waving the gun, this all you got? I'm going to kill you, I'm going to shoot you, that's all you got? She's begging for her life. It was just terrible."

They took the beer and less than 100 dollars. They ran towards a nearby housing complex and Clack believes she knows why.

"I think they know people who live back there. It has to be somebody who's been watching her come in the morning and knows she doesn't have that many customers."

Lashari says she thinks about her safety every day she goes to work, but says, she loves what she does.
