Tornado watches are in effect from Texas to Illinois today...this follows that terrible, deadly tornado that hit Moore, Oklahoma yesterday, killing at least 51 and injuring hundreds more...20 of the dead are children. Officials say they expect the death toll will rise as crews continue to go through the debris...they've been working throughout the night. We are working to get the latest information on all that's happening and will bring that to you in a live report. Meteorologist Al Conklin will also give us more perspective on why these tornadoes are happening...and the history of tornadoes in that area, which has seen its share of storm destruction.
State troopers say a drunk driver led them on a chase that started in South Carolina and ended in Mecklenburg County early this morning. The suspect was stunned with a Taser and has been taken to a local hospital.
The Charlotte Bobcats say the team is going to make a major announcement later today. The team is expected to announce it will change its name to the Charlotte Hornets, which was the name of Charlotte's first NBA franchise...a name that is very popular with many basketball fans.
