One in custody, police looking for second suspect in Statesville homicide

STATESVILLE, NC (WBTV) -

Police in Statesville say they have arrested a man in connection to a murder Thursday night.

Byron Lee Smyre, 22, of Statesville, is charged with murder, according to a news release from the Statesville Police Department.

Smyre is charged with killing 22-year-old Dantae Laquan Stokes of Statesville.

Police responded to a shooting call on the 100 block of East Raleigh Avenue shortly before 4 p.m. Thursday.

Smyre is currently being held in the Iredell County Jail.

A second suspect, 18-year-old Dewayne Tramel Pickett is wanted by police in connection to case on a murder charge.
