CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Three thugs rob a sandwich shop.
They waited out back at the Subway, 9548 Mt Holly-Huntersville Road, while workers in the store were cleaning up at closing time.
"The employees were emptying the trash for the end of the night," said Detective Marty Cuthbertson, "and as they exited to (these) trash cans, they were approached by three black males."
Surveillance video clearly shows one of the bandits put a gun to the head of the worker who'd just taken out the trash.
"He was threatened by them. They told him they were going to shoot him, but he said, 'please don't shoot.' 'Here, take my phone,' and they took his phone."
The also forced the cashier to her knees. All three then make a bee line for the cash drawer, stuffing their pockets.
One man is wearing a black hood and black top. Another is in all blue with bandana mask. The third had dreadlocks and bandana.
"It's very unusual, when you think about it. This is a place of business that doesn't generate a lot of money. Once you split it up between three you're not getting much."
On the way out, they took the cash drawer, but also helped themselves to packaged snacks they found on a rack. All three filled their pockets. One guy even danced in delight with his ill gotten gains.
Later, police used GPS to track the stolen cell phone.
Detective Cuthbertson said, "They located the cash register in the area where that phone was pinged, but when they got there, the register was broken all into pieces."
These three didn't get a lot of cash, but they still have the cell phone which might lead to their undoing. If you can help, call Crime Stoppers in Charlotte at (704) 334-1600. A reward of up to $1,000 could be yours.
